DOUGAL2.jpg (59196 bytes) Dougal's Story

Here you will read about a very special Scotty and his "Mam".  His name is Dougal and even though gone from us now,he was the catalyst that launched the largest movement ever seen.

This is his story.

Dougal's story is indeed one of wonderment and joy.   Many years ago, Dougal, a wee black scotty found himself without a home.   He so wanted a human to own with his heart.   One day he came upon a woman named Peggy.   As he gazed into her eyes and she into his, he knew he had come home; he learned of love.   Two hearts had been rescued this day.

 Over the many years, Dougal and Peggy forged a spiritual bond like no other.   Then one day in September, 1998, Dougal became quite ill.   He had a fatal disease; one no veterinarian nor any amount of Peggy's love could hope to cure.   But hope does not die so fast when a human is owned by a wee scottie; for hope is what leads us to miracles....

 Dougal's quality of life was supported by medical care, miracles were indeed prayed for.   Yet one morning, September 14, 1998, Dougal went to his "mam", and as he gazed into her eyes and she into his and no louder words were ever NOT spoken.   Peggy knew it was time to stop medical treatment; she knew in her heart that loved this wee one so, that what she was doing now was for her and no longer for her Dougal.   She helped Dougal cross the Rainbow Bridge that afternoon.   Her eyes so full of the "Wet stuff", could not weep as hard as her inner heart.

Peggy's friends tried to rally round her; tried to give whatever support they could to a friend who had just lost her best "bud".   In this effort, they wanted so to relieve her of another burden, the paying of Dougal's many medical bills.   See, Peggy is disabled, she is one with limited resources, yet she went without so her Dougal could be spared pain.

Now as many bills loomed, her friends took action.   Through the wonders of the internet an idea was born.   Why not establish a fund, a permanent one, available to scotties whose humans needed financial assistance, for whatever reason, to help pay for veterinary care.   It would be a simple fund immediately available to everyone with a Scotty in need. Dougal's Friends!

A person would privately contact the fund when in need.   The need would be privately discussed, the parameters understood.   Dougal's friends would be advised of the new need for financial assistance; the administrator would be the site of central management where funds would come in, where funds would go out, where documentation was received, where case info was privately kept, and all would be done anonymously.  The recipient never to be aware of who has specifically donated their resources.

Dougal's friends immediately embraced this fund;
for it's birth was indeed a miracle.
It's name is simply,
